Mazda’s early¬† years, as well as the Second World War

Mazda’s origins can be traced back to 1920, when its founder Jujiro Matsuda and a small group of investors purchased Toyo Cork Kogyo, a small business. Toyo Cork Kogyo was a company that made machine tools for domestic use. The company’s name was changed to Toyo Kogyo Co. Ltd. in 1927. Toyo Kogyo’s operations gradually changed from manufacturing machine tools to manufacturing automobiles.
